Fight ISIS in Syria, US welcomes Saudi Arabia Muster Army Readiness.
Nevada - US Defense Secretary Ash Carter welcomed the offer of Saudi Arabia to participate in ground operations in Syria. Carter mentioned, this will make it easier for the US to step up attacks against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)."This kind of news is very welcome," said Carter told reporters on the sidelines of a visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, as reported by Reuters on Friday (05/02/2016).Previously, through his defense counsel, Saudi expressed readiness to participate in the US-led coalition ground operations against ISIS in Syria. Saudi has been joined in air strikes against ISIS.Carter hopes to discuss the offer with Saudi Defense Minister in Brussels, Belgium next week. He mentions, Saudi previously had indicated a willingness to engage more in the battle against ISIS.For example, continued Carter, Saudi officials said they would help mobilize the Muslim countries to join the US coalition against ISIS. Added Carter, he will take advantage of next week's meeting in Brussels to attract wider support in order to enhance the battle against ISIS.
Since 2014, the US military has launched a recorded approximately 9,800 air strikes in Iraq and Syria. In January, Defense Secretary Carter had called a few countries that are not members of the coalition do many things to help defeat ISIS.
Saudi military itself launched multiple air strikes against ISIS in Syria. But the so-called attacks was reduced when the Saudi-led coalition began attacking the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Related to that, the Saudi authorities said the operation against ISIS in Syria does not stop with the Saudi military operations in Yemen.
Besides Arabia, the United Arab Emirates in November 2015 and has also expressed readiness to participate in ground operations against ISIS in Syria.
